Y447 Na{Mr Nadin}2B10628 October 6th,1928. To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From Na{Mr Nadin} RE: HEADLAMPS In reply to yours Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RMl/LG20.9.28, re the above subject, we are arranging to send to you a pair of Guide Tilt-Ray Headlamps, for use with a double filament bulb. We will arrange to send you two or three double filament headlamp bulbs as spares with these lamps. We think this is a good representative model of the headlamps commonly in use here. In the Eastern States the law restricts the size of the bulb useable, to 21 c.p. which we think will be much too feeble to suit your ideas of road lighting, and you will probably want to substitute at least 32 c.p. bulbs, which provide a much more satisfactory light. The maximum legal height for headlamps in the Eastern States is 42" from the ground, with the top of the beam about 3° below the horizontal, so that there is no glare whatever at a height of more than 42" from the ground. Garages all over the Eastern States have been instructed in the method of focusing and aiming headlamps to comply with the headlamp laws and carry out this work on customer's car for a fee of $1.00, which includes a certificate giving the date of the adjustment and giving the owner of the car the assurance that his lights comply with the law. We will advise you further concerning the price and date of shipment, etc., in the course of the next few days. TN/B Na.{Mr Nadin} | ||
