Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to EFC. X.3981. BY14/P15.6.20. X.3923. CHASSIS & REAR SPRINGS. X.39 81. I have discussed the question of the rear springs for Mr. Royce's car with Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} and was present while he discussed it direct with Messrs. Woodheads. Woodheads stated that they could not possibly produce a pair of springs this week, but that if as we suggested, we would supply the springs already produced for the car to them by 11 o/c tomorrow morning, they, on their part, would grind off the back of the springs so as to bring the ends of the leaves to within the .100 dimension and have the springs ready for us to take away again by 11 o/c the following morning, Thursday. In regard to the question of alteration of poundage, Woodheads stated that it would not be more than 30 lbs per spring and possibly not more than 20 lbs. I accepted the higher figure and stated that 30 lbs would not affect the issue. Would you therefore arrange for one of the experimental cars to take the spring to morrow morning, leaving the works at 8 o/c, so as to arrive at Woodheads works at 11 am. You appreciate the urgency of the matter equally with myself and will therefore arrange for an experimental car to take the springs and again to be sent to bring the springs back on Thursday morning Contd. | ||
