Lull To Sft.{Mr Swift} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}5/KW.4.4.35. Bentley Timing Gears. The attached prints show the particulars of the flexible timing gear teeth which we suggest to help in obtaining quiet gears. We have given the dimensions of the teeth by showing the normal section of the hobs as these are easier to draw. As shown on Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1875 it will be necessary to turn down the spring drive in order to fit the crankpinion. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1884 shows a further modification in the form of grooves turned round the periphery of the gears with the deep teeth, i.e., the crankpinion, dynamo gear, and idler gear. We suggest that three sets of gears without the grooves, and three sets with the grooves should be made for trial. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
