X.4337 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Pa.{Mr Paterson} c. to BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to E.O. Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/CB18.4.21. X.4259 X.4337 - GOSHAWK 11 - BRAKE EQUALIZING GEAR. We assumed from LeC.1355 that you wish us to adapt the Goshawk 1 brake differential shaft etc., to Goshawk 11 and accordingly we send a print of N.sch.837 shewing the equalizing boxes mounted in the position shewn on LeC.1355. As these boxes are difficult to lubricate we have suggested that it might be done from the side and if a system like the Alemite oiling system were ever adopted, it would be quite easy to arrange. There is a certain difficulty about the design of the double bracket at each end, and we shew two alternative suggestions - Fig 1 and Fig. 2 The levers appear rather long but we have taken the lengths off LeC.1355, and it appears to be necessary in order to give the movement indicated.
