R.R. 475 (59)(H) (X 737. 18.3.12) E.P. 1493. ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED, NIGHTINGALE ROAD, DERBY. TELEGRAMS: "ROYCAR," DERBY. TELEPHONES: 813 (TWO LINES). DEPARTMENTAL MEMO. This column is for Name of Person addressed: Mr Barrington. for T.C. DATE: 30/4/12 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}54/T 30412 RE EXPLOSIONS IN SILENCER. With reference to Mr Royce's instructions re fixing pad on the throttle to overcome the above trouble, we have tried this by rigging up temporary arrangement and it has shown itself to be very satisfactory so far. The felt pad we used however failed owing to its catching fire when an explosion took place in the carburettor, please therefore arrange for the one that has been designed to be made of some uncombustible material. There is a point which I do not consider of much importance and could I think be overcome to the effect that there is a certain lag in the " pick up " which we have found is due to shortage of petrol as when running with ordinary standard throttle there is a certain amount of Contd.
