Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}3/ET.4.11.40. - 3 - SOME APPLICATIONS. -------------- 1. By means of a low pressure unit it is possible to examine the effects of various types of exhaust silencer, both as regards back pressure of the engine and the efficiency of damping and sound or pressure waves. 2. Measurement of high and low liquid pressure fluctuations. 3. Study of pressure waves in the fuel injection pipes of oil engines. 4. Investigation of water hammer and other hydraulic phenomena. 5. By the use of a special adaptor, the movement of the atomiser needle valve in an oil engine, may be recorded. 6. The rate of change of pressure diagrams are very useful in detecting incipient detonations in petrol engines: it is possible to observe the effects of detonation when the intensity is too light to be audible. 7. Indication of movements and vibrations, and many others. | ||
