81282. Ha/Yng.3/KT. January 14th 1933. Messrs Shell-Mex & B.P. Ltd, Shell Corner, Kingsway. London. W.C.2. For the attention of Major Callingham. Dear Sirs, We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter re. T. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} LCC/KCC. of the 10th inst. regarding 80 Octane fuel. We know that there is no A.M. specification for this fuel, and realise that the position is of necessity very nebulous. Since we have not conducted any tests as yet, on your fuel, we are somewhat at a loss to understand how you have received the impression that we consider the Octane number to be less than 80. at 150°C. As regards bulk storage, we think that you will have to accept the fact that a fuel having a high octane value is an established fact, and although it may not become a Service standard for some considerable time, development work on both fuel and engine have started and undoubtedly will be increasing. Trusting that we have now made the position clear as we understand it. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
