-3- Les.12/B.25.7.39 (Contd:- Silver Ripple (Contd) By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} stated that the body cost would be similar to B.V., namely £300. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} pointed out that the S.S.Jaguar body cost only £68. CAST IRON ENGINES Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} stated that he would have liked the C.I.Engine to be linked with the Silver Ripple for the following reasons - 1. The lower price of Silver Ripple. 2. It would give a chance of getting experience with the C.I.Engine on a model which was to be added to our range rather than a replacement model. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} said that he was more satisfied with the C.I. 8 cylinder engine than the 6 cylinder engine, due to the timing gear trouble which had been experienced on the 6 cylinder. It was hoped that the present chain drive on the 6 cylinder would be satisfactory, but tests were not yet complete. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} stated that 95% of the C.I. 6 cylinder engine could be released immediately and that the remainder would not be ready for release until February. The 8 cylinder could be released almost immediately. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} considered Crankcase castings to be the most difficult piece of C.I.Engines and it was decided that several castings should be made in order that experience should be gained before actual supplies were imperative. Drawings of the 6 and 8 cylinder Cast Iron Engines are to be supplied to the Works for criticism. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that both the 6 and 8 cylinder engines would definitely come on to production and that the Works should proceed with the equipment and jigs necessary for the Archdale machine. STARTER MOTORS It was again mentioned that Messrs. Lucas had quoted a price of £2 for Starter Motors, against £5 for the very simplest Starter Motor designed and produced by us. | ||
