X.8796 - WATFORD MAGNETOS FOR EAC.

We send you herewith Watford magneto EU6d No.81100 and my assistant's report in this connection is as follows :-

"This magneto was returned faulty off the experimental test bed engine and we have now tested it on the bench. Regular H.T. sparking could not be obtained on 5.5 mm. gaps in air for any position of the hand lever, or for any speed, so that we consider the magnet is weak, or else there is a partial short circuit in the windings. It is not thought that there is H.T. leakage as all the H.T. parts were carefully cleaned prior to test. Except for some end play in the armature shaft, the magneto appeared O.K."

This magneto has been in use on our experimental test bed engine and though it has been used constantly for some considerable time in various circumstances, we see no reason why it should have failed to maintain its original sparking characteristics.

Would you please return this magneto to Messrs. North and obtain their diagnosis, enquiring of them whether they would be prepared to rectify this magneto free of charge.
