1326 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.4/HP. 30.8.33. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} re Jacking Pads on Bentley. With reference to the above, I feel that any addition to the outside of the spring such as the fitting made by Lake and Elliott bolted over the leather gaiter is a distinctly poor job, and my suggestion is to incorporate the jacking pad in one of the spring clips, making a special clip with a jacking pad formed solid on it for this purpose. The gaiter would then be made with a suitable aperture in the bottom fitting round the pad, and we should endeavour to find some means of making the joint reasonably grease tight, such as by drawing the leather into a circular annulus by means of the lace. We are looking into this question now. As regards the front axle, Mr Day finds that the jacking height practically corresponds with the rear now so that no alteration to the position of the jacking abutment is necessary.
