X 7820 OIL LEVELS. S.S. FRONT DAMPERS (LEFT HAND). Investigation on chassis in Test Dept. Without removing the side strips the damper top covers could not be removed. A chassis was found which had one side strip already removed. The filler plug of this damper was taken out, and on looking down the filler tube the oil level appeared to be slightly low. The top cover was then removed and the level measured .400" below the filler-tube. The pivot pin was immersed in the oil to approximately the same depth as shown on the Arrgt, Drg. F.82446, but it should be noted that the springs were not under normal load (i.e. No body, also radiator removed). This low level proved to be exceptional. Three other dampers were tested by measuring the depth of the oil level from the filler plug joint face, and it was found that the levels varied from standard to .050". All these dampers were fitted with "Vented" filler tubes and plugs. | ||
