- 4 - slack in nut & worm. The steering at slow speeds is light, and no wobbles have developed. At high speeds, on Moderate rough roads, there are slight wobbles. Also at times there are severe shocks on steering wheel. At high speeds on smooth roads, there are no wobbles, but car is inclined to wander. We think it would be advisable if slightly more friction would be applied to pivot pins. When pivot pins are well oiled, the steering is on the light side, and we consider shocks on steering wheel are increased. Front Axle, XK G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 5248I with modified brake operating gear to W. Sch. 2014/19. These are in good condition, & have worked satisfactorily. Axle pivots G.52355/6 - these are O.K. Pivot pin, bush & friction washer to Drwgs. EX.663/4/5 - these are in a good condition. N.S. & O.S. brake drum shoes are in good condition, slight amount of slack in cross steering tube ball end joints developed - these have been adjusted. Cross steering tube has fouled front engine guard. Front springs. These have been examined & are O.K. Front & rear anchorage of springs appear to be O.K. from feel & outside examination. On rough roads we are continually hitting buffers. The buffer clearance, when car is normal, is N.S. 2" & O.S. 2". Front shock absorbers. These have functioned O.K., & are in a sound condition. Clutch. There has been a slight tendency to jagger when engaging. Also, there has been occasionally a slight squeak when changing gears quickly on hills. We have had no case of any slipping. Gearbox. We have still got slight oil leaks from rear of housing covers. Nuts on rear flange G.51590 were found to be on slack side. These have been tightened up & have remained O.K. The leaks in question are very much less than previously. So far we have had no occasion to replenish oil in the gearbox. Gears are O.K., and there has been no tendency for any gear to jump out of gear. Gear change mechanism. This is quite O.K. Servo & Servo gears. The servo has jaggered on several occasions. We have dismantled this, but apart from a slight increased clearance in cams the servo & mechanism appears to be quite O.K. There is no undue slack in any of the bearings that we can find. The servo gears rattle at speeds of 12-18, 20, 22-28, & 30-33 m.p.h. A slight one has also developed at 42-47 m.p.h. The servo rattle at 27-28 m.p.h. is considerable when the box is hot. We have had no occasion of thumping on front brakes when applying the brakes. | ||
