CHP/FGC/EEL. 12th Dec. 1936 Experimental Department, Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 7th instant in regard to apparatus for measuring instantaneously the load in a shock absorber link, and much regret that it was not possible for our representative to call as suggested. We believe that a satisfactory stress measurement could be obtained by employing a Piezo Electric Crystal suitably mounted, but for the indication it would be essential to have an amplifier together with a Cathode Ray Oscillograph. You will appreciate, of course, that with a pencil on paper recorder it would be necessary to overcome the enertia of the system and also friction of the pencil on the paper, so that the Cathode Ray tube would be a more desirable proposition. The equipment would include the following:- 1. Piezo Electric Crystal with suitable mounting. The latter to be discussed with your engineers in order to obtain an accurate stress measurement. 2. Amplifier with suitable indicator. 3. Cathode Ray Oscillograph, suitable time base etc. BIF 1937 15 TO 26 FEBRUARY OLYMPIA & EARLS COURT·LONDON SEE OUR EXHIBIT | ||
