X1129 To EJJ/JV. c.c. to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}17/KW.16.4.36. No. 4 Test Bed Single Cylinder Bentley Unit. It is anticipated that in two or three months' time the above unit will be placed on No.4 bed in place of the Fudge, coupled to an electric dynamometer. We should be glad, therefore, if you would complete the layout of the bed, incorporating the following – (1) Petrol flowmeter B. & B. (4-42) and bottle gauges. (2) Water system, with overhead cooling tanks. (3) Silencing system, coupling up to existing outside silencer. If possible, this should be made adaptable to fit on either side of the engine, to suit some of the existing cylinder heads. (4) Instrument board, to take – (a) Thermometers – Water "In" & "Out". Oil "In" & "Out". Boost Air Temperature. (b) Pressure Gauges – Oil "High" & "Low". (c) Petrol – variable Jet Control. (5) The oiling system, we understand, is completed.
