re: Chassis 3.BU.144 - Lord SOMERS
---------------------------

As requested by you on 'C''s behalf over the telephone this morning, we will not fit the new crankshaft but will have the dismantled one reconditioned and then re-fit it to the engine.

Will By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} kindly note that we have to-day sent the crankshaft to have N° 3 crankpin reground and the firm who undertakes this work for us has promised to let us have the shaft back sometime to-morrow morning. We will write to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} to-morrow and give the dimensions (dia.) of N° 3 crankpin so that the Works can prepare for us a connecting rod having a special big-end bearing to suit the reduced dia. of the crankpin.

Will By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} kindly arrange to send us particulars (composition) of the crankshaft steel which can be given to Messrs. AUBERT & DUVAL when we send them the crankshaft for re-nitriding. We should like similar information to that contained in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}3/AP.30.11.36 "Crankshaft and bearing wear - Chassis B.6.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}".
