Messrs.Rolls-Royce,Ltd., Date 16.11.28. Page 4 tank filled to the top of the filler, as the whole top of the unit and a portion of the air line will be under petrol under these conditions. We would suggest filling the tank to say 18 gallons, and breaking the air line and pressure balance line at the tank connections, letting the gauge read zero in this position, and then putting in the rest of the petrol and filling it up to the top of the filler. The point at which pumping commences could then be observed from whatever the gauge was reading when filling up from 18 gallons to the top of the filler. We find at the last moment that we are unable to show the 21st gallon, which is the true capacity of the tank, on the gauge set which we are sending to you to-night, owing to the fact that the pressure balance bell as at present arranged, cuts off just before this 21st gallon is arrived at. If you wish it, by re-arranging the pressure balance line slightly higher up, we shall be able to include the 21st gallon on the other gauges, but owing to the shortness of time available, we cannot make the alterations in the time in this instance. Furthermore, the scale on this particular instrument will be only 2 1/8" instead of 2 1/4". In future we can comprise | ||
