X421 Re Wire Wheels. TBB5/L29612. Mr Royce 29.6.12. Road wheels I think the following information may be of some interest to you. Col. Ferguson writes on June 15th that he has run his Rudge-Whitwirth detachable wire wheels a total distance of about 19,800 miles. For the first 4000 miles the spokes gave no trouble but the wheels required frequent tightening on their hubs. Since that time the hubs have given no trouble but a considerable number of spokes have been broken and required replacing. He points out that the wheels were fitted in July 1909 and that consequently they are not if the latest design. I think the question of tightening the hubs are the points to the importance of really good fitting. The trouble from broken spokes has possibly been overcome in the later design.
