RADIATORS Some time ago an instruction was issued to protect radiators from superficial scratches by covering them with greased paper. This protection had some advantage when we were dealing with chromium plated radiators which if slightly scratched had to be replated at considerable expense. The scheme had certain disadvantages in that every time a chassis was taken on the road the greased paper had to be removed, as the warming up of the radiator loosened the paper and if it was not removed before the car was taken on the road, there was a danger of the paper flying off and impeding the driver's vision. It will be seen that considerable time and labour is spent in repapering radiators during the routine of testing. A further disadvantage to this scheme is that the grease runs down and causes deterioration of the rubber mounting for the radiator on the Phantom II Chassis. This has been pointed out to us by the Experimental Dept. and they have recommended that we discontinue the use of grease. We cannot however find any other medium which is satisfactory. We now submit that the practice of papering the Staybrite Radiator should be discontinued. [Signature] | ||
