To DY.{F R Danby} Copy to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RRC. E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/MN.29.9.36. F.J. HARDY! Wraith II - Rear Bumper and Fixing. We send herewith LeC.5301 showing the rear bumper fixing for Wraith II. It is proposed that we should provide the forging on the rear cross member only and that the bracket be provided by the Coachbuilder. On LeC.5267, also herewith, we show the centres for the bumper fixings, and also the bumper itself. On production, of course, the bumper will be provided by the Coachbuilder. We send herewith also for your information and filing LeC.5266 showing an alternative design of rear bumper fixing following the lines of Phantom III. We have decided not to use this more expensive design until we have tried the cheaper one mentioned above in view of the importance of the cost of Wraith II. Also this tubular design has the disadvantage which does not appear on Phantom III, namely that the thrust of the bumper support tube is in line with the rear cross member, and any excessive load on the bumper would distort the chassis frame rather than collapse the bumper fixing.
