WHEN REPLYING PLEASE REFER TO X/ LGT9 14th.July,1937. For the attention of Mr.West. Dear Sirs, We acknowledge your letter of the 13th.instant, your reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.9/AP, in which you state you have now had a written report in connection with the FS{F. Steele}22-N Foot Switch which failed on the Phantom III Chassis now running in France, and we note that the report states the off-side lamp 'blacks-out' completely with dimming, and that you believe this is due to the contact plunger not overlapping the contacts when dimming. Are we to assume that this is just a momentary 'black-out' as the change takes place from the "bright" to the "dim" if the switch is operated very slowly and deliberately, and why should it be confined to the off-side lamp? We think you will remember there was a switch some time back which gave both bright and dim filaments on at the same time, and we made certain modifications to the plunger to overcome this. However, we are about to build up six further samples switches for you as arranged, and we shall introduce a test in our Laboratory to check for this fault to see if we can re-produce the same conditions here. If you should have the faulty switch returned to you, we shall be pleased to receive it here at your earliest convenience, and also any further data in connection with a written report, which may be useful to us in our investigations. Yours faithfully, JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED, L. S. Palmer | ||
