Modifications to P.100 Headlamps.

I am very anxious, in view of the difficulties involved by the original arrangement, to try and avoid fixing temporary headlights to R-R and Bentley cars belonging to customers, on account of the difficulty of getting these lamps back within a reasonable time on cars that are far removed from London in the ordinary course of events.

When I got your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.8/MA20.6.35, I went up to N. and talked this question over with Br, and discussed any other suggestions he had for getting over the difficulty of changing ~~the lamps entirely in favour of~~ only changing those parts of the lamps which would bring about the desired modification.

By measuring up the dipping portion of the mechanism we find that the diameter of the improved type is the same as the old, but on measuring up the inside diameter of the fixed portion we find that it is increased by 1/32 and 1/16th of an inch. It seems, therefore, that if not only the dipping portion but the fixed portion of the inside were changed, all your objections would then be overcome.

It appears to be just as simple a matter to remove the fixed portion of the reflector as to remove the movable portion. Even this additional job will still get over our great trouble of fixing new headlights, and we are presuming that you would now have no objection in view of the clearances being observed correctly.

I want you to help us all you can over this and not raise any objections now unless they are absolutely essential. Br is confident that he can make a proper job of this matter.
