86153 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.7/MA. 26th March, 1935. Messrs.Philco Radio & Television Corporation of Great Britain, Ltd., Aintree Road, Perivale, Greenford, MIDDLESEX. Dear Sirs, Replying to your letter of the 25th instant reference AFDK/AED the two main difficulties in connection with the installation of car radio on new Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars are :- (a) The fitting of carbon resistance spark plug suppressors which seriously interfere with the slow running of the engine. (b) The prevention of disturbances arising from the C.A.V. voltage regulator used in conjunction with our dynamo. With regard to (a) we suggested to Mr.Newton that resistances of much lower value might improve matters. Obviously if the resistance is reduced too much interference from the capacity component of the spark discharge will again be apparent but it has occurred to us that there may be an optimum value of resistance which will not interfere with slow running and which will be permissible from a radio point of view. This can only be determined by experiment and if you care to make up a few sets of suppressors with varying resistances say 10,000, 5,000, 2,000 and 1,000 ohms respectively we will make arrangements to test the same. | ||
