This is to place on record the results of the discussion between Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} and Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} on Tuesday April 23rd. after Mr. Parnell's departure. It was pointed out by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} that as long as the Salisbury axle was used on Rippletto it would not be possible to have common carrier plates for front and rear brakes. If however, the carrier plate for the front brakes is given a reverse set from that shown on PL.183, and brought to the face of the pivot nearest the wheel centre, it is possible to eliminate one pressing, and if at any time it is decided to use a rear axle of R.R. design in place of the Salisbury then the rear axle design can be arranged to use the same carrier plate front and rear. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} agreed to this. In order to be able to use the same pivot for Rippletto and the Senior Range, it will then be necessary to modify the pivot of PL.167, just issued, to fall into line with the pivot required for the proposed Rippletto layout. This implies putting a kink into the, at present, flat carrier plate of PL.167, but at the same time enables a subsidiary pressing to be eliminated. Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} agreed to investigate this from the design end. The principal parts on PL.167 affected are pivots, brake carrier plate, and cross steering lever. Will Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} say whether he would like Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. to hold up detailing of these parts for the time being?
