10,000 MILES TRIALS CAR - CHASSIS 12-EM. x.4426
HARTFORD SHOCK ABSORBERS.

With reference to the letter from Messrs. T.B. Andre dated 23rd. ult.

Sometime ago we examined the duplex model Hartford. This model has the same size universal joints as the ones we are using. The only advantage we could see in them was that a bigger friction load could be obtained. They are a type, we believe, which were developed for racing cars.
We do not wish to use a big friction load. The fault complained of on 12-EM was that the load had increased from what it was originally set and by doing so it spoilt the riding of the car. We do not see how the duplex type would overcome the complaint which was experienced on 12-EM.
We suggest that it might be better to reduce the rating of the spring and make it so that if the spring was screwed choc-a-bloc, no excessive load could be put on the friction surfaces.
