Handwritten: Mr. Hives Ref from RR V547 Stamped: POST RECEIVED Typed: OYS.R.102227 October 22nd, 1927. Mr. F.H. Royce, Rolls Royce Ltd., London, England. (Copy for Mr. R.W.H. Bailey) ( " " Mr. E.W. Hives) Dear Mr. Royce: RE. BALL BEARINGS Mr. Schubert has now produced and is supplying to the United States Navy various sizes of ball bearings made in stainless steel. The bronze cage used on the Schubert bearings is of such an analysis that there is no electrolytic action between the cage and stainless steel. These bearings are designed for running under water and with water as their only lubricant. Their capacity is 60 to 80% of the capacity of a standard bearing, and various applications such as water pumps or parts inside automobile engines where corrosion is at present to be found, become at once available for the use of stainless steel bearings. We think you might be interested in this job as general information and possibly for use on the idler gear where corrosion appears to take place after a time and appears to be the only reason why this bearing should become slack after a few years. Yours very truly, MO/R Signature: Maurice Olley | ||
