BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 4547 DAL/M14.1.28. HYPOID AXLE 1" OFFSET. X.2066 X.3807 X.547 We understand that you are erecting the hypoid axle with 1" offset for trial immediately. In view of HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}' report as to the Schatz bearing it is possible that it will be considered wise to put in another type such as New Departure. A New Departure will not go precisely into the same place as the Schatz, and accordingly we have prepared N.sch.2537 (herewith) shewing the slight adaptations necessary to use a New Departure bearing. The pinion shoulder is cut back about .250 and we believe this will present no difficulties. The casing is unaltered but the housing becomes rather thick. Should this ever go into production, or further experiments be carried out, we should wish to reduce the thickness of this housing, and will send you a scheme in due course. Will you please send us an extra print for despatch to R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
