HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} E.9/HP.10.6.37. 709 Bentley III Brake Gear. Confirming our discussion of the 8th inst. it is agreed that as a result of strip examinations of Girling and R.R. brakes returned from Continental test, the Bentley III specification shall be modified to the Girling system of brake shoes, and brake shoe operation. The specification would then read as follows:- Rear Suspension. Bentley fully floating rear axle as tested on 6-B-1V and shewn on N.Sch.4667 fitted with 12" drums with Girling brakes and operation, 17" rims, and also fitted with the simpler cheaper axle tube and altered spring seats to suit Bentley III present layout. This axle would be equipped with the present Bentley hubs. Front Suspension. Packard type suspension but fitted with Girling brakes as designed for the torsion bar suspension with drums reduced from 12" to 11 1/2" diameter, present Bentley hubs but with provision for incorporating smaller hubs. 17" rims as rear but 16" can be used when required in future programme. Brake operation as schemed on N.Sch.4973 but applied to the Packard type suspension layout. Die cast aluminium ribbed drums front and rear. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [Initial Signature] | ||
