Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Date 13.3.31. Page 3 necessitate the very lowest possible type of vent and unit top, assuming that it is essential to retain the same height of filler on the tank. We enclose a sketch showing the minimum that we at present think can be done. We fail to see how it is possible with the height of the filler on the tank shown on drawing NSOH 3144 to reduce the height of this vent beyond a certain point, irrespective of the requirements of our unit, as it must be sufficiently high to take care of the splashing and surge on acceleration, to avoid - as you rightly point out - petrol vapour odours in the back of the body. We know of no way of dealing with this part of the problem, if the unit is to form a central tank vent. We conclude that body or chassis cross member interferences preclude the unit and vent being placed forward in the tank under the front portion of an apron. Assuring you at all times of our best attention, We remain, dear Sirs, P.S. To avoid delaying you we are preparing the dial asked for, and will forward to you on Monday, bearing in mind the reservations mentioned in this letter. Yours faithfully, H.M. HOBSON, Ltd., [Signature] Joint Managing Director. | ||
