6021, EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /RC. {R. Childs} 5/JH. 13th May, 1938. Messrs. Peto & Radford Ltd., Dagenham Dock, ESSEX. For the attention of Mr.E.S. Chapman. Your ref. ESC/MH. {M. Huckerby} Dear Sirs, We thank you for the report on your method of testing batteries in low temperatures, also for the description of the apparatus used. We have completed a test in the cold chamber on your special 6HZD11.G. batteries and obtained very good results. The recovery after a 15 second load test was very good. Below are the actual figures obtained. 25/30 type 6HZD11.S. Special 6HZD11.G. Load. 272-232 amperes. 272 - 248 amperes. Battery volts. 8 volts. 8.55 volts. The readings were taken over a period of 15 seconds, the starter turning the engine over in a temperature of 8° FAR, for the purpose of this test the ignition was not switched on. Immediately after this test the ignition was switched on and the battery again connected to the starter. After a further period of 20 seconds the engine started up. In a previous test on the second special battery we were able to turn the engine over by means of the starter for 130 seconds without an appreciable drop in battery voltage, We are now carrying out further tests on the bench and will Cont'd. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
