Dear Young,

We have received a letter dated October 31st signed by Mr. A.D. Gardner of the Saginaw Division asking for further data on our valve gear.

Before we get involved in hydraulic valve adjusters we must have some idea what they are going to cost us. As a matter of fact, our main difficulty is that we cannot fit any proprietary article that is not manufactured in this country, and, therefore, unless you can give us some information as to how these tappets can be produced at an economical price, we cannot go forward with them.

I wonder whether you can give me any information as to the best type of sodium or copper-cooled valve to be used on a side valve engine. We, of course, have considerable experience on overhead valves, but not at all on side valves.

Yours sincerely,
