Reference Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/KW.13.2.35., and copy of letter from Owner. We give you below a precis of this Owner's brake troubles as far as they can be traced from our files. May 1933. The Owner complained to AA.{D. Abbot-Anderson} to the effect that there was a bad front brake shudder and squeak. He also raised the question of fitting the latest type ribbed brake drums as he had been informed by Messrs. Jack Barclay Ltd., from whom he bought the car, that he ought to have had these. June 1933. The front brakes were attended to at N. 15th February 1934. The brakes considered by Owner to be poor - vide Memorandum No. 7096, AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}11/K.15.2.34, in which we were asked to quote for fitting the latest type ribbed brake drums and increased leverage. March 1934. This work was duly carried out at Derby and the existing liners re-bedded to the new drums. For increased leverage we fitted lever G.80176. Here we are not quite sure whether the leverage is the same as Mr. Fairey's car as we think the lever for the latter car was made and fitted by yourselves. 24th September 1934. Owner again complained to AA.{D. Abbot-Anderson} who agreed that the foot brake was not extremely efficient and it appeared as though the front brakes were doing very little work. AA.{D. Abbot-Anderson} adjusted the brakes one notch and reported that the braking was perfectly normal. 3rd January 1935. Owner again complained to AA.{D. Abbot-Anderson} of poor braking and AA.{D. Abbot-Anderson} had to agree that the foot brake was poor. 7th January 1935. Car at Cricklewood, where the servo was re-lined and foot brake rod adjusted to take up slack in cables. HdH | ||
