87960 X7005. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/W.W.29.9.31. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Re. 40/50 HP. 58-GN. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}13/28.9.31. The W.W. design of Diamond engine mounting provides for auxiliary feet at the rear which would prevent the engine dropping to any extent if the bolts holding the rear bearing failed. These feet also allow the gearbox to be dismantled without disturbing the engine. Experimentally we have run three different cars with Diamond engine mounting but we quite agree it would be a good thing to fit this scheme to 58-GN. The "jellying" complained of on 25-RX. was made no worse by changing from the standard four engine feet to Diamond engine mounting. If you could arrange to let us have 58-GN. car any time after this week end, we expect to be able to return it to you in about a week. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
