Re: Bensport Gearbox

Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/MJ8.11.32, I wrote to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} as follows on the 9th:-

" Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/MJ8.11.32, in view of R's state of health, I do not like to worry him personally more than is absolutely necessary and of late have kept this down to the minimum.

This question of the gearbox for Bensport is of vital importance for the reasons explained in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s memo. and as I understand you really have the job in hand, I should be glad if you would let me have a note of the position and how soon you expect to let Derby have the remainder of the drawings.

I do sincerely hope that it is not being held up for completion of the scheme for automatic dampers, because it would be absolutely hopeless from a policy point of view for us to introduce something like this on the Bentley, prior to it being on the Rolls-Royce."

and I attach copy of his reply.

I should be glad to hear how this matter now really stands.
