1021 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/ML. 6.4.40. C.W.Ward,Esq., Messrs Park Ward & Co., 473, High Road, Willesden. London.N.W.10. Dear Ward, I do not know whether you understood the position with regard to the custom built coachwork for the rationalised range of cars, from the conversations that we had during your recent visit. The situation is, that we have reduced the Factory cost of the Silver Wraith and Silver Phantom chassis by about 50%. You believe you have reduced the price of the Bentley body from £421 to £265 (or 40%.) without any reduction in the quality of the material. If we are going to get the turn-over which is imperative if we are to take full advantage of the rationalised programme we must get out a cost analysis of custom built bodies for Silver Wraith and Silver Phantom which show reductions that are comparable with what has already been done on other items. The Board have asked for a complete picture of the motor car position as soon as possible and I would therefore like a date from you as to when you think you will have got a complete picture of the organisation, by means of which you will build these 4-light and 6-light limousines, the tools you will need and the amount of interchangeability with B.V. pieces. - Continued - | ||
