General Impressions.

General impressions of this car when given on a basis of comparison with what one hopes to attain on Peregrine are :- Engine power good, roar, fuss and rumble more than we should tolerate, steering, springing and brakes good; mechanical and gear noises excessive; gear change simpler and more attractive than we can hope to achieve. The body work is good and looks attractive (it is by Mulliners (Birmingham).

A detailed examination of the car has not yet been made but many points about it are much cruder and more unfinished than we could afford to turn out even on a low priced car. As an example, no undershields of any sort are fitted and dynamo wires are allowed to hang down within a foot of the road, their terminals on the dynamo are exposed to dirt and water also distribution boxes; the exhaust tail pipe passes under the rear axle and has been squashed nearly flat by the axle on rebound; locking of nuts on spring clips and many other places is entirely inadequate.

On the other handthere are parts which are interesting. The general engine layout is simple and the number of accessory drives has been reduced to a minimum making an easy production engine, the engine oil level indicator is effective and at the same time extremely simple. The ignition, carburation and throttle controls on the steering wheel are neat cheap and attractive.

Hydraulic brakes do away with the necessity for equalisers, cross shafts, ropes and other mechanical parts and are all that is required for the Peregrine class of car.

The instrument board layout is neat, attractive and inexpensive provided with interior illumination.

There are several things on the car which are not quite in order and we propose to take advantage of this fact by taking the car back to the works and at the same time collect some information concerning the major faults of the car. They may be peculiar to this one car or representative of the model.

We attach acceleration curves.
