S.S. 455a. (100 T) (S.H. 793. 10.12.20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2047 ORIGINAL To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} GOSHAWK AT WW. Acting on Mr. Royce's instructions I recently removed the cylinder head from the Goshawk here, and decarbonised. A number of points were found requiring attention. (1) There is no "C" spanner on the car for the exhaust pipe nut. There seem to be no spanners of the ordinary type for one of the small hexagons - probably 3BA. (2) Mr. Royce would like you to send him a special long reach sparking plug spanner, of the sort we used on the aero engines, having a small diameter stem. (3) There appears to be no cork fitted on the hole made through the wheel case for drilling the dynamo strap anchorage pin hole, and the oil was flooding out of the wheel case at high speeds. (4) The gauge of the water pipe clip seating seems too heavy - the metal in fact seems thicker than that used for the clip itself. (5) Mr. Royce noticed that that the exhaust valve guides protruded somewhat through the casting. He would like these made flush. (6) The screws fixing the front cover of the cylinder head fouls the fan spindle end when raising or lowering the head, also the head fouls the dash. (7) The valve grinding screw driver slots seem too wide and too shallow. (1) | ||
