NOTES MADE DURING INTERVIEW WITH MR. WEST, of MESSRS. ROLLS ROYCE LTD., at CHRONOS WORKS, 12.10.33. New Type Instrument. The new lay-out of the A.T. Speedometer was submitted to Mr. West, who approved of the general scheme. The saving of weight of the new type, compared with present type, is 16 oz. Further savings may be possible, in view of the discussion this morning. Two Test Instruments have been promised to me by Mr. Lenoir in one week from now. These are to be Speedometers 5". One of them with half size magnet and half the general calibre of the dash-pot, hand and strength of hairspring. The case of the instrument with the small speed mechanism can, therefore, be reduced in size as regards total depth. A screw-on type of outer flex coupling to the speedometer is agreed to, but the present type of inner flex coupling must be retained. The trip re-set spindle must be arranged in both these instruments to be 45° backwards from the plane of the dial. It is suggested this can be done by reducing the length of the spring load device. Please see that the new style of 'B' is on the dial of the second instrument. There is no need to alter the first one. A little black guard must be provided, so that the top of the total mileage is not seen through the gap round which the hand works. | ||
