RE REAR WHEEL & LUGGAGE CARRIER. PHANTOM.

We notice on F.78722. that the body rail and luggage grid when folded up are not vertical, but that the latter leans back towards the wheel. We presume that this has been done to avoid the knocking of the tube at the top of the wheel carrier centre plate against the tube of the grid opposite to it.

If this is so we think that it is not what we had was [strikethrough: thought] agreed to be done. We understood that Expl. Dept. had suggested rubber rings around the first mentioned tube and that we had agreed to this.

We do not like the scheme adopted on F.78722. chiefly because the amount of separation is so great. If this were reduced to say .250ins. between the top tubes this would give about .187.ins. between the two tubes that chatter. We would suggest that this should be ample.

The above suggestion can be adopted with modification to the dies for F.77128. as the shifting of the hinge pin hole would be very slight.

Failing this, for reasons unseen, one would go to the scheme adopted on EAC.10. of not putting the tubes in question opposite eachother. The grid tube would be raised.
