- 12 - (5) It was agreed to instruct a modification to the second speed sliding piece shewn on N. Sch.4173. The following modifications are available. It was agreed that these should not be instructed for production, but should be tried out experimentally at the earliest possible opportunity. (1) N.Sch.4141 - Wider cones. (2) 4128 - Weaker selector springs. (3) 4145 - Modifications to first and second speed actuating lever. Wider front brake drums. These had been very satisfactory during the French test, but it was not agreed that they were essential for production. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} was asked to find out from the Repair Department whether they think the customers would welcome the change. The only advantage to be gained is a longer life of front brake lining. Hydraulic Tappets. Standardisation sheet is to be issued for this modification. In connection with this Experimental Department asked for designs for lighter valves, stronger valve springs on the Bentley and 20/25 HP.chassis, and also for designs for the General Motors type of hydraulic tappet on both these chassis. Experience they had had with the Halford type of hydraulic tappets rather showed that no success could be obtained with them and that we should go for the G.M. tappets. Engine Mounting. It was recommended that in view of the increase in front end frame and spare wheel carrier movement, and poor steering experienced on 28-EX that we should return to the present trunnion type of front engine mounting and retain flexible rear rubber mounting.
