DUNLOP TYRES
C4/C30.10.34 - The present standard type pattern is known as "MA.2" and the new type the Dunlop Company are suggesting we standardise is Type "90".
We have had samples of the latter under observation in the Experimental Shop for some months, but weather conditions have not been such that they could be tested in really wet weather.
The Experimental Shop, however, agree the Dunlop Company's proposals, i.e., that they should start supplying the new pattern in small quantities, gradually building up to complete standardisation - always provided the tests now proceeding by the Experimental Shop prove satisfactory.
As you doubtless realize, the moulds under which these tyres are made represent very considerable capital expenditure. At present the "MA.2" Moulds are wearing and it will be necessary to replace same. So, under the arrangement now agreed, the Dunlop Company will cut new moulds to the "90" pattern.
Mr. Shankland has doubtless advised you that it is their intention to launch an extensive Publicity campaign early in the New Year, emphasizing the merits, in their opinion, of this new "90" pattern tyre.
