Cox - Advertising Manager}8 of the 27th instant, I have received the blue print of the proposed lay-out of this instrument board -D.Scheme 526. What strikes us about this is that it is undesirable - if it could be prevented - to have the instrument board any deeper than we have had in the past, and the proposed new scheme is reported to be 3/4" deeper approximately owing to the depth of the panel. Looking at the panel itself it does seem that it need not be so deep as this, as there is a lot of space between the top centre dials - water temperature and ammeter - and the two bottom ones for oil and petrol. Could not these two lower dials be put slightly higher up so as to avoid this extra depth ? We take it that the circles shown on this blue print indicate the outside diameters of the instruments, in which case it would seem quite possible to bring them closer together. This we think would also be better from the illumination point of view, as we believe that the illumination is to be carried out by the Coachbuilders inserting suitable lamps under the scuttle. Apart from the illumination question, however, we do think that extra depth is a very undesirable thing. Would you therefore be good enough to investigate the possibility of this slight change before you proceed with the necessary preparation of tools for manufacture. Can we assume that in connection with this new scheme the readings on the dials will be, where possible, at the lower side of the dial as shown in D.Scheme 504 ?
