PRICE'S LUBRICANTS

C7/C26.1.34 - I have delayed reply to the above until I had an opportunity of discussing the matter fully with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}

(a) Mr. Brooker is hardly correct in stating we have definitely agreed to fill up Rolls and Bentley chassis leaving these Works with Price's and Wakefield's Engine Oils in the proportion of 50/50%.

(b) What we did tell Mr. Brooker when he visited these Works on the 16th instant was, that such was our present practice, and it was probable we should continue same. But we gave him no undertaking whatever that we should definitely do so during 1934.

(c) Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}, with myself, are of opinion that we should continue such arrangement, i.e., fill up Rolls and Bentley chassis with the proportion of 50/50 Price's and Wakefield's Engine Oils, as this would avoid complication - in addition to which, from various discussions I have had with them, there is little doubt both Mr. Stalibrass, of the Shell Company, and Mr. Russell Sharp, of the Vacuum Company, attach more importance to the appearance of the name of their firm in our Instruction Books etc. etc., and recommended Oil, than they do to supplying oil at the extremely low prices ruling for Works supplies.

(d) Labels, as samples attached, are at present affixed to the various Rolls and Bentley chassis when they leave these Works. If you are in accord we propose to continue this arrangement.

From the foregoing - particularly Paragraph (b) - you will note we are quite open to put other oils in such Chassis should it be considered advisable at a later date.

Meantime I have written to the Price's Company as original herewith, which I suggest you post on if in accord.

ROY.{Sir Henry Royce}
