Re TYRES.
Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/KT23.5.32

I note that you and Dunlops representative have been making comparative silence tests between our present improved silent tread tyre and the MA.1.tyre, and that you are satisfied in this respect with the MA.1.

As I mentioned in my previous memo. we have been trying out the MA.1 against the MA.2 and we think both these tyres are better than the present tyres from the point of view of silence, but that the MA.2. is better than the MA.1.

I also note that Dunlops state that the MA.2 has better non-skidding properties than the MA.1.

As you mention, we have had experience over some distance, on Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s car, of the MA.2.

Do you not think the best thing will be to tell Dunlops that we will have the MA.2 tread as standard, so that they may get on with the job?
I do not know whether it is worth our while risking it for the 20/25 h.p - that is to say, whether the same tread would be just as silent on the 20/25, but if so, let us have them in both sizes without waiting.
What do you think about this?

Would you like to try the MA.2's? I think, as a matter of fact, Dunlops can supply you with some for the 20" wheel.

Incidentally, we find it better to test for silence on smooth tarred surfaces and not macadam. We have a number of streets in London that show up any noises very much.

C.
