destroys them on the car in all cases, except where a resonant period is struck, and in this case they die out, if the wheel is released, that is, if a lot of friction is called into play.

I had intended for some time to work this matter out thoroughly, but as all the forces involved are very complicated, it would appear to call for a considerable amount of time. In view of the experiment suggested in your note, I thought the above might prove useful.
