Huckerby}16.1.35 re PHANTOM II & 25 H.P.CHASSIS HAND BRAKE EFFICIENCY Some time ago we complained seriously about the ineffective action of the 25 H.P. hand brake; this, however, now seems to be improved since action was taken to avoid the oil getting on to the brakes. In drawing your attention to this matter some time ago we pointed out this possibility, in case the driver was free in the use of lubrication. We trust, therefore, some action is being considered whereby in case of excessive lubrication the waste will not get on to the brakes but rather on to the floor, underneath the chassis. As regards the Phantom II, we take the view that apart from the question of oil getting on the brakes the hand brake cannot be considered really effective. We bring this to your attention as in view of the forthcoming possibility of official brake tests of customers' cars on the road it would not do us any good if a customer of one of our cars was fined owing to the brakes being unsatisfactory for road use.
