For the attention of Mr.Foord. R.D.E.2.b.

Dear Sir,

With reference to your request to try Lodge sparking plugs on the Merlin C engine we placed a half set of Lodge X465D plugs along with a half set of K.L.G.868D plugs on our development engine Merlin C.3.

After three hours running one of the Lodge plugs failed due to the internal mica washers working loose.

This is exactly the trouble we have experienced previously with 14 mm Lodge plugs on the Merlin and they have apparently made no progress with the design of a 14 mm plug for our Merlin engine.

condition.

The K.L.G. plugs were all insatisfactory

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
