STRAIGHT-EIGHT DUESENBERG.

I was able to examine this chassis which is now at Messrs. Barkers. The following are some of the points which may be of interest to you :-

The engine is a straight-eight, bore and stroke, I believe, 95 x 120 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} It has two over-head, cam shafts; four valves per cylinder. The cam shafts are driven by a silent chain on the front of the engine. The plugs are situated centrally over the pistons, between the two cam shafts.

Delco-Remy battery ignition.

Schebler carburettor.

Auto-pulse petrol feed.

The carburetter is exhaust-heated; this is controlled by a thermostatic valve in the water system which closes and opens according to the engine temperature. The exhaust from the carburetter is carried away by separate pipe which leads to a small independent silencer.

The main exhaust is of very large diameter and is carried to a large silencer and then to the rear of the car by two pipes.

The engine mountings, of which there are four, are all insulated with rubber packings.

The chassis lubrication is carried out by automatic Bijur system; this I understand oils practically the whole of the chassis. Any failure of this system is indicated by a little lamp which lights up.

The top half of the crank case and cylinder block appear to be one casting.

The gear box and clutch casing are attached to the engine. The gear box is very small. Central change; three speeds.

The hand brake is mounted at the rear of the gear box.

There is a straight drive of about 2' at the rear
