To. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Mr. D'Aeth. c. Mr. Pendlebury. X9940 E.A.C. II. & E.A.C.III. FRONT BRAKE DRUMS. Experimentally only, I wish to run the brake drums on the above cars with a Brinell of 239 to 277. the reason for the experiment being that the Experimental Dept. inform me that the front brake drums in one or two cases are tearing up, which would tend to increase the power of the brake beyond normal, and secondly, would set up squeaks. Will RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} therefore kindly instruct up the Brake Drums to be heat-treated in accordance with this instruction. This must not be confused with a definite alteration we have already made on the rear outer brake Drums. The matter under discussion is a further experiment to see whether it will be necessary to bring the front brake into line with the standard rear for E.A.C.III. so far as Brinell is concerned.
