To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} C. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X 8150 Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}8/EW29.3.28. Re Phantom Water Pumps. It was arranged to examine all Water Pumps for the period of a month, in order to ascertain what proportion required attention due to the spindle bearings seizing, the chief object being to try and catch the damaged ones before the Water Pump Casing became damaged. Out of 22 cars, 10 spindle bearings were found to have seized. We should like to know whether we should continue to make an examination on all Phantom cars which come into our hands, and whether we should instruct Depots to do likewise; The cost of the examination only is 12/-. It appears to me to be worth while, say, for 3 months, and review the position again. We will arrange to stamp those examined in a prominent position if you agree. Hm.{Capt. W.
