W.A. Robotham, Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Limited,
DERBY.

Dear Mr. Robotham,

In the course of a cable to Detroit last month, I asked Hudsons for completed information about their experience with transmission backlash noise, and have received the accompanying letter in reply. It is probably stale news to you, but the information about their actual operating limits may be interesting. It is obvious that they have not been troubled at any time with this noise in the gear box itself.

The obvious inference from the extremely fine tooth clearances is that the noise would develop with wear, and this is in fact the case. After about 30,000 miles the noise then becomes audible again.

You might return the letter when you have read it.

When we met at the Show, you said that I might come up and have a look at the "Twelve" sometime this month. I have got to be up in your direction sometime next week, and should like to know what day(if any)would be the least inconvenient for me to look you up.

I also want to talk to you seriously about Switzerland!

Yours sincerely,
[Signature: Reid Railton]

P.S. The last paragraph of their letter looks as though I had mentioned the name of Rolls-Royce. Needless to say, I did not.
